I use my skills in journalism and film to collaborate on various projects, as well as consult on work that focuses on social issues, sustainability, and community impact. I create multimedia content—written, video, and more—for research and academic institutions, media outlets, and non-profits.
Currently, I’m wrapping up the production of a data-driven, community-engaged documentary film based on the findings of the RESPCCT study, in collaboration with the Birth Place Lab at the University of British Columbia. The project explores the perinatal disparities experienced among marginalized communities and highlights community-informed care models, bridging the gap between academic research, media, and public communication.
In addition, I’ve been assisting Charles Montgomery, urbanist and author of Happy City, with research for his upcoming book on how physical and online spaces influence social trust.
At the moment, I’m covering the Indigenous-climate beat for Canada’s National Observer, please reach out to me with story tips, resources, or insights at sonal@nationalobserver.com.
